I have to give a mention about the Aylesbury Young Enterprise Awards which took place at Aylesbury College on the 30th April 2009, what a great night.
You would not believe the amount of talent that was revealed on the night.
Basically there were teams from most of the Schools in Bucks, they had to form a Company and run it as a going concern, they had to appoint a Director, Accountant, Human Resources, Purchasing Manager, etc.
They had to raise funds, (Many sold shares in their Company's) and decide on a product to take from the design floor to the Market.
They had various Focal points, such as trade shows, school assemblies/functions, local markets, etc.
It wasn't like Sir Alan in the Apprentice, the Team that makes the most Money wins and in the losing teams, one of you will get Fired!
There were some decisions to Fire people within their teams, I have to tell you that raised
Screams and Laughter in equal proportions.
There were some Great presentations throughout the evening, I picked out Four likely Winners and all four of my choices were indeed just that "Winners", I had a chat with the chap sitting next to me, he agreed with two of my choices.
As a Director of my own Company, I get invited to quite a lot of functions, I have to make all of the choices that you all got to make as a team by myself.
The big difference being that if I fail many people suffer, as like the weakest link of a chain, the poor performance of my Business will affect many others, if I fail to sell many used cars then my Valeter, mechanic, body shop, driver, parts supplier, advertising outlets and all other suppliers, etc will get less work from me, this will impact on their business and will be reflected further down the line to the links in their respective chains!
One of the Girls Groups summarised it quite well, she said, "The whole experience had given her a great insight into the Adult Employment World, Wholly different from the two weeks work experience that most schools send you out on where most of the school kids are just glorified tea boys and general Go fors!
I was very impressed with the Talent that was displayed on the evening, it is wonderful to see that we have so many aspiring young individuals that are extrovert, outgoing, witty, clever and that think outside the box.
Well done to all of you, Thank you for a very entertaining night and Good luck in all of your future endeavours.
Never mind Britains Got Talent, "Aylesbury's Got Talent".
Thanks for looking in again.
Regards
Mark Duncan
